Just before World Breastfeeding Week draws to an end, thought I’d just do a quick update on my breastfeeding journey now at 7.5 months! How time flies, we’ve passed the half year mark. Looking back at the first few weeks/months of breastfeeding, I was investing hours into this new endeavour, trying to make sense of how to do this. In the blink of an eye, more than half a year has passed, and things are so different right now! Baby now drinks every 3-4hours or so, and for a quick 5mins each time. It’s not 5mins straight though, because she’s now discovered that mummy makes a really good playground and she loves tumbling all around me, using me as her support while she practices standing, and everything else around her is more interesting (and distracting) than the boob. So while the actual latching duration adds up to no more than 5mins, I typically end up sitting there for at least 15mins while she explores for a bit and intermittently turns back to the boob for a quick guzzle xD I’m like her water bottle now. Not complaining though. Now that work is getting busy, I’m really treasuring all these moments that I get to latch bb (instead of someone else feeding her the bottle) and snuggle up with her.
With her frequent night wakings for the past month, we’ve ended up bed-sharing and it’s been the best way to help me survive the (long) nights and days. And now that she’s bigger, I’ve found it so much easier to side-latch! We used to struggle with it because the angle always seemed a bit weird when she was a tiny newborn, but now it’s way more comfortable, and it buys me some sleep while she suckles away in the middle of the night. I’ve lost track of the number of night wakings she’s had, but it’s a joy waking up to bb’s happy face in the morning.
That’s pretty much it for now! I’m thinking of stopping pumping soon (yay to less washing!), but latching could probably continue to go on for some time :’)
